Ich war kurz davor zu Telegram zu wechseln. Das hat viele Benutzer und gute Rezensionen. Es gibt viel bei threema was mich nervt. Und ich habe nur 2 regelmäßige Kontakte. Aber dann hat das Restore auf meinem iPad beim 3.en Versuch doch funktioniert und ich bin bei threema geblieben.

Thanks. I think it's not worth the risk. I'll create a new ID again and abandon the old groups I'd managed.

Unfortunately I didn't get a popup after restoring. I tried deleting threema and reinstalling but that didn't help. I've always updated Threema immediately an update was available.

My iPhone broke but I had backed it up. I had also backed up the Threema ID and checked the flag "Include in phone backup".
When I restored my iphone backup to my new iphone the Threema app was restored, but not the ID.

How do I restore the Threema ID from the iphone backup? What are the exact steps?

I'm not sure if I'd been trying with a group created by someone else or if I'd overseen the "Add member" item inside the list of members and other stuff but now I know.
It'd certainly be worth adding to some sort of online help if that's ever available.

Thanks. But on the apple app there is no menu. I can choose "contacts" where I see a list of individuals but no groups . Or I can choose "messages" where I can find the message threads for the groups, and even navigate to the group members. But "edit" only allows me to delete the thread. There's no option for adding members.
2 other menus are "my iD" and "settings"
and predictably you can't find groups in either.
Maybe it's no longer possible to add group members in this version.

Damn. I've forgotten how to add a new person to a group and can't figure out from trial and error how to do this.
If ever there was an app that would benefit from an instruction manual then Threema (on iOS) is it.

Die Weiterentwicklung von Threema ist äußerst armselig.

In the new version you don't have to scroll through all the old messages if you rotate to Portrait mode first.

In English, because someone's been fiendishly cunning in hiding this feature

1. Scroll to the top of the conversation. If necessary keep reloading old messages until you get to the top.
2. Rotate your tablet/phone to portrait orientation.
3. You should now see a row of circles representing the conversation participants (if you don't, your tablet is in landscape mode)
4. Tap on on of these circles.
5. You now see a screen called "group details"
6. Scroll down past the list of participants to the bottom of the screen and you'll see the "email conversation" option.

Ich kann dein Problem reproduzieren.
Wenn der Kontakt immer per groupchat erreicht wird (zB weil er ein Tablet und ein iPhone hat), dann kann man über der Kontaktliste kein Chats mailen. Stattdessen muss man in der Chat direkt zum Teilnehmer navigieren, und dann taucht das email-Menü auf.

Yep. Threema Android wins hands down in that respect. With Threema for iPhone it's all or nothing.

Understood. But one argument often quoted for Threema is that unlike WhatsApp the messages are not stored in the cloud.
Discussions about which encryption methods are stronger or weaker are of secondary significance.

Bottom line.. I like the Cloud, including Apple backup for stuff that is personal and not private, but I'd prefer keep my Threema conversations out of the Cloud.

It's big news that iCloud may have been hacked and celebrity photos stolen. So I'm wondering if Threema correspondence is also at risk.

iOS Threema users wanting to backup their list of contacts, or wanting to export them to another device, have to backup all the data including the conversations. Depending on your setup this may be replicated to iCloud.
For practical reasons I'd prefer an export/import function to the iOS-Threema backup (Threema's Android does this better), but now I'm wondering if this is a security risk as well?
