  • The procedure to remove the persistent notification "Threema Push" and the icon in the status bar that is described in the FAQ does not work in old Android versions since there is no option "Threema Push" (nor any other communication channel).

Please add an option within Threema's settings to disable notification/icon.

(Reported with Gigaset GS170 running Android 7.0.)

  • Android requires a persistent notification to be shown for so-called foreground services. There's no way around.

So, you either have to live with it, disable Threema Push and use Google Play Service, or upgrade your phone to a more recent Android version.

"Foreground services continue running even when the user isn't interacting with the app.

When you use a foreground service, you must display a notification so that users are actively aware that the service is running. This notification cannot be dismissed unless the service is either stopped or removed from the foreground."
