Why should I buy Threema?

    I just bought Threema for iPhone tried for couple of days and wondering what's the difference between Signal and Threema

    I tried both these apps and couldn't find any major difference between the two

    Both are secured and offers almost similar features (Threema even doesn't offer video call)

    Can someone please comment and explain how can I recommend Threema to my other contacts and friends?

    Signal and Threema are the two messaging apps I can recommend, both are focused on security and privacy.

    There is nothing wrong with just using Signal. I'm using it, too.

    Here are my reasons why I also bought Threema:

    • I want to support companies who have a sustainable and ethical business plan.
    • Using Threema is kind of a statement for better online privacy.
    • It's a secure messenger that is very popular in German-speaking countries.
    • So many services are US-based. I like that Threema is from Europe.
    • Threema does not need a mobile phone number.
    • I like the UI a little more compared to Signal.

    Threema does not support video calls yet, but I expect this feature for 2020. Let's hope I'm right. :)

    For me, one of the main differences between Signal & Threema is....

    Signal is US based. I don't trust anything from the US. I don't care that signal is apparently open source. And I would never trust that signal is not somehow data mining for alphabet agencies. I don't have the ability to audit the signal code. Nor would I particularly trust an American telling me to trust anyone running Signal. I basically place Signal in a similar category to WhatsApp. I have less reason to believe it's like WhatsApp, there are many reasons to absolutely distrust WhatsApp. However, jurisdiction is important to me.... So Threema it is.

    Threema is Swiss based, much better.
